France is the home of ‘casual chic’. And that was exactly what we were looking for when, with a group of enthusiastic family grape-growers in the ancient Languedoc region, they set out to create Le Grand Noir. A range of wines that would make perfect partners for a wide range of dishes, or to drink by themselves. Wines to serve at a dinner party or with a barbecue or a picnic on the beach. Every bottle of Le Grand Noir comes exclusively from our land, tended by vignerons for over 2,000 years. What makes them unique is the care we take in marrying grapes from individual vineyards to produce wines that are always full of flavour, but never too powerful or alcoholic. And welcome everywhere. Viogniers are often over-oaked. We wanted our wine to display the floral, exotic of this grape and it was crucial that it would be a great accompaniment to food. So we added 15% Chardonnay grapes to the blend, giving the wine extra freshness, and to go with its delightful mango and apricot flavours. The wine saw no oak. A truly classy example of this variety.
