And that was exactly what we were looking for when, with a group of enthusiastic family grape-growers in the ancient Languedoc region, they set out to create Le Grand Noir. A range of wines that would make perfect partners for a wide range of dishes, or to drink by themselves. Wines to serve at a dinner party or with a barbecue or a picnic on the beach. Every bottle of Le Grand Noir comes exclusively from our land, tended by vignerons for over 2,000 years. What makes them unique is the care we take in marrying grapes from individual vineyards to produce wines that are always full of flavour, but never too powerful or alcoholic. And welcome everywhere. Deeply coloured, soft, plummy and cherryish, with hints of violet. The use of oak is deliberately light to maintain the fruity, easy drinkability of the wine. A great marriage of the fruity appeal of Argentine Malbec with the subtler, more structured and mineral-noted examples from Cahors in France.
